FLAIR FOR WORDS 21st BIRTHDAY COMPETITION

Winner takes all!

Winner of our first ever Open Competition
ELIZABETH CANDLISH
of Fife, in Scotland
received £300
and a round of generous applause
at our 21st Birthday Pow-Wow.
Her reaction?
Just one word – WOW!

We were delighted to receive 100 entries for this competition – and most of them were of such a high standard that we had great difficulty in choosing the winning entry. In the end, Elizabeth won because her story gave a slightly ‘different’ angle to the subject of THE BIRTHDAY PARTY and was very well written. Characterisation and dialogue were particularly good.

Her entry began:
“Strawberries, Miss Fuller?” beamed Bob Denny. “It must be your birthday!” Madge Fuller, taken aback, blushed, and he was delighted. But the story doesn’t continue in the way you’d expect. . .
